JSI will soon launch Josephology Studies, a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal. We welcome contributions from all topics in Josephology, especially Joseph in Scripture, the early Church Fathers, the liturgy, the magisterium, devotional piety, as well as reviews on new books, movies, art, and music.

Please include a short abstract of 300 words or less at the beginning of your paper and email it to JosephologySociety@gmail.com by September 8, 2025. Submissions should be formatted according to the Josephology Studies style guide provided below. Please note that submissions must be original and not previously published in English. JSI also welcomes submissions on a rolling basis throughout the year.

I. Guidelines for Submissions

  1. Papers should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style (current edition), not APA nor MLA. The Antiphon style guide is also an excellent source to be consulted.

  2. Articles are unique, not published previously in English, and are the copyright property of Josephology Studies.

  3. Submissions are peer reviewed by an editorial board and an advisory board of scholars with applicable expertise.

  4. Email files attached in Word (.doc or .docx), rich-text (.rtf) or Pages (.pages) format.

  5. Include a 250-word abstract with your submission and keywords (e.g., Josephology, fatherhood, Augustine).

  6. Articles may vary in length (typically 5 to 15 pages).

  7. Please submit papers to JosephologySociety@gmail.com.

  8. After article approval, authors will receive one additional opportunity to read through the type-set piece in order to make any final corrections. Detecting errors lies with the author.

  9. Authors receive a PDF of the final work. Please advise editors if you will share your article on Academia or elsewhere.

  10. If you have any questions on these instructions, please ask via: JosephologySociety@gmail.com.

  11. Please advise at the same email address if you are interested in participating in the advisory board.

  12. Articles may be submitted by one author or multiple authors.

II. Josephology Studies' Style Guidelines

  1. Use footnotes in accord with Chicago style, not endnotes nor parenthetical references (except for biblical citations).

  2. Place all bibliographical data in single-spaced, non-indented footnotes.

  3. Note callouts should be positioned after punctuation.

  4. Avoid quick successions of note callouts (the possibility of two or more falling on the same line of type), since they can cause serious problems for typesetting footnotes. Overly lengthy notes that will spill onto the following page should be avoided.

  5. Use “vol.” rather than “v.”

  6. Do not use op. cit. And do not use p. for page numbers. Simply list the numbers.

  7. Always include the author’s name in the note (except where it is appropriate to use Ibid.). Subsequent references to the same work can use an abbreviated form of author, title, and page number. If a reference to the same work follows immediately in sequence, use Ibid.

  8. Use Times New Roman 12-point font.

  9. Avoid dots: PhD, STD, USA not Ph.D., S.T.D., U.S.A. Use dots: e.g., etc., i.e., not eg, etc, ie. If end of sentence it's etc. not etc.. Dashes: hyphen (-), em dash (—), en dash (–); e.g., well-being; Joseph — the Terror of Demons — receives protodulia; 2000–2020. Scholarly journals avoid honorary titles (e.g., St., Ven., Bl., Pope, Rev., etc.) except when quoting titles or if needed to clarify who the person is or in the beginning of the article.

  10. Greek and Hebrew do not need to be transliterated. Please check that the spelling and diacritical marks are correct.

  11. The Catechism of the Catholic Church should be spelled out the first time and thereafter abbreviated as CCC.

  12. In accord with Scripture and the CCC, JSI prefers to use "legal father" (cf. CCC 532) or simply "father" (cf. Lk 2:48) to describe Joseph's unique fatherhood instead of the term "foster father."
